Getting to (and up) the island
You can reach your holiday home on the island of Santorini by air or sea. During peak season (late April to early September) there are various direct flights to Santorini National Airport. Off-season, the island can be reached via Athens on Olympic Airways or Aegean Airlines. Sea travelers arrive at a port at the base of the majestic cliffs. One way to reach the top is by climbing the Karavolades stairs (588 steps). Other travellers, especially children, prefer to ride up on a donkey. Alternatively, visitors can enjoy the views in the comfort of a cable car.
Things to do on your Santorini vacation
Santorini is a natural wonder—it is literally the remains of a volcanic eruption. Travelers can go hiking to observe the fascinating coastal rock formations, and take a boat trip to an active volcano on the nearby island of Nea Kameni. History buffs can explore the Museum of Prehistoric Thera, Archaeological Museum of Thera, Megaro Gyzi Museum, and others. If wine is more your taste, Santorini is known for its "Vinsanto" sweet wines. If you prefer relaxing in a pool or on the beach, consider sinking your toes into volcanic sand at the Perissa, Kamari, Perivolos, or Red beaches.
