Sun, Sea, and Sand at a Baska Holiday Apartment

Baska is a picturesque town located on the Croatian island of Krk. It is fast becoming a popular holiday destination and is well known for its beautiful old town, historic churches, and long sandy beaches such as central Vela Plaža. The town is the perfect destination for families with young children as well as couples looking for a beach holiday, particularly given the ample choice of Baska holiday homes. Depending where you stay, you'll likely be in walking distance to local attractions and amenities.

There's much to do with a stay in a Baska holiday apartment

If you love having a sea view whilst on holiday, then find your perfect holiday apartment in Baska from TUI Villas. Properties are typically spacious and modern. Treat yourself to an apartment with a balcony where you will be able to enjoy amazing views of the city and coast. Many holiday homes around Baska have their own swimming pool, perfect for cooling off on a hot summer day. Pets are permitted at a number of the properties; your furry friend will also love exploring the beaches and town. Krk is easy to travel around by public transport or alternatively, you could hire a car. Excursions to other islands make for great day trips. However, you will also have everything you need in the resort town of Baska, from a choice of restaurants, nightlife, and entertainment to cultural activities.

Excursions and activities in and around Baska

For a great day out, visit Kosljun, a pretty little island off the coast of Krk. It can easily be reached on a short boat trip from Punat Bay. The island is very tranquil, with fewer visitors than Krk. There are beautiful beaches, amazing views, as well as a monastery and museum with an ethnographic collection, a zoological collection containing animal specimens, and large seashells. Overall this will be a relaxing trip which all the family will enjoy.

Visit a castle

The Frankopan Castle is small but interesting and is well worth a visit, as it likely isn't too far from your Baska holiday apartment. The castle is located in the beautiful old town and has an old world charm with its derelict structure and cobbled streets. From the castle, there are wonderful views of the sea and it is surrounded by some great restaurants and bars.

Swimming nearby

There are many lovely beaches in the region, a number of which are within walking distance of holiday apartments in Baska. If you are looking for somewhere to swim, try Stara Baska, where there is also a cove which is accessible by boat. Soline Bay is another popular spot; cover yourself in the beach's healing mud as an outdoor, DIY skin treatment. Stand-up-paddle boards, or SUP boards, are also available for hire in Soline.

Activities for children

Kids will love the Biserujka Cave as exploring here is an exciting and educational experience, with stalactites and stalagmites. There are also many hiking trails around the cave. Another great activity for children is a visit to the Adriatic Aquarium, where they can enjoy spotting a variety of fish, sea horses, sharks, and stingrays. Older children will love the thrill of the Edison Zipline where they can view Krk from a unique perspective whilst whizzing over the mountainside. This is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts and adventure lovers.

Popular nearby locations

From your holiday apartment in Baska, you can easily visit a number of neighbouring towns including Vrbnik, Punat, and the rest of the island of Krk. Vrbnik's old town is steeped in history, so be sure to wander down the beautiful cobbled streets while admiring the view, and find the narrowest street in the world, located here. Vrbnik is also quite famous for its wine, and many local wines can be sampled right in town as well as around Krk in general. Punat is a great day trip for those travelling with children. The kids will love the underwater park here, with the underwater sea walk a particular draw. You can enjoy this adventure and experience the thrill of diving, whether or not you have any previous experience.

For a unique and adventurous way to see the rest of Krk, you might also consider booking a full or half day sailing adventure. The boats typically sail to three destinations and depart from Baska. A skipper service is included and it's possible to stop off on one of the neighbouring islands: Rab, Goli, Grgur, or Prvic, where there will be time for swimming, snorkelling, and a picnic.

Travelling from the UK to Baska

Getting from the UK to Krk is fairly easy, as the island has one of Croatia’s main airports, Rijeka Airport. Fly with either Croatia Airlines from London Heathrow or from London Stansted with Ryanair. Rijeka Airport near the town of Omisalj, which is on the north end of the island. Once you arrive on Krk, you can catch a bus to Omisalj first, then take one of the regular bus services to Baska. It is also possible to fly to one of the other Croatian airports and then catch a bus to the island as it is linked by road to the mainland.

When to travel to Baska

July and August are the busiest months to visit Baska, as this is the time when the weather is ideal and it is also the summer holiday season, so all local restaurants and attractions will be open. The sea will also be at its warmest then. However, if you want to visit at a slightly quieter time of year, autumn also has great weather from the end of August to mid-November. Late spring is pleasant for similar reasons. In winter, the town is very quiet and there is a chance of snow.
